Indigenous exhibition bridges education divide
Melbourne Indigenous Transitional School’s (MITS) Barring-bul exhibition was an opportunity to showcase art forms handed down through generations of Indigenous communities. Proceeds from the exhibition, featuring established and emerging artists related to some of the Richmond-based students, were used to establish the annual Rona Pamkal Scholarship, ensuring a place at MITS for one student from West Arnhem Land.
The range of stunning art works and the philanthropic objective naturally lent itself to a long-form media broadcast format. LCMC facilitated an ABC News feature to mark the opening of the exhibition, generating pledges of donations and in-kind support for the school.
